The Scouts and Guides of Holy Family Convent School are not just a club; they are a force for good, leaving an indelible mark on their community and etching unforgettable memories in their hearts. These dedicated young citizens are not just learning for the classroom, they’re preparing for life and ready to face any challenge with courage and compassion.
We have 40 scouts and 40 guides for the present academic year, nine of them took the esteemed Rajyapuraskar Test. Ms. Anandavalli, Ms. Pavalaselvi, Ms. Thilagarani, and Ms. Laisa Mary serve as their mentors.
In September, our school proudly hosted a three-day Scouts and Guides camp on our school premises. The event commenced with a march past by the troops followed by the hoisting of the flag, promise, flag song, and prayer song. Our Scout Master, Ms. Anandavalli, and our Guide Captain, Ms. Pavalaselvi, assumed leadership roles and efficiently arranged the camp. The fundamentals of campcraft, such as mapping, knotting, lashings, and tent pitching, were taught to the students by the resource persons from Netaji Scouts and Guides. Mr Venkatesh, Mr Ramesh were Scouts Camp Masters, and Ms Jesiya Mariyal and Ms Sudha Narasimhan were Guides camp Captains.
Anuvijay Camp
On November 18 and 19, 2023, a two-day Scouts and Guides camp was held at Atomic Energy Central School of Anuvijay Township, which is in Koodamkulam and is equipped to serve as a pre-test camp location for training in Rajya Puraskar. Classes 8, 9, and 10 Scouts and Guides enthusiastically engaged and received instruction in knotting techniques and the use of a variety of devices. They underwent testing to determine their Rajya Puraskar Certification ranking. Our institution’s scoutmaster, Ms. Anandavalli, and guide captain, Ms. Pavalaselvi, were invited to serve as the camp’s chief resource persons.
Rajyapuraskar Test Camp
Rajyapuraskar Test Camp is an annual event organized by the Bharat Scouts and Guides for Scouts and Guides across India. The camp is held over four days and includes a variety of activities, including Practical tests, Written tests, Leadership activities, and Community Services.
This year’s Rajyapuraskar Test Camp (Stay camp) took place from January 5 to 7, 2024. The test camp was successfully attended by 6 scouts and 5 guides. The S.J. Nidhi Matriculation Higher Secondary School hosted the guides camp, while the old Perugalathur Govt. Higher Secondary School hosted the scout camp. In addition to being assessed in written tests, they were tested in a variety of craft projects, knotting, and other camp crafts. Scouts and Guides who complete the camp are awarded the Rajyapuraskar, a prestigious award that recognizes their achievements in Scouting and Guiding. The Rajyapuraskar Test Camp helps to ensure that Scouts and Guides are prepared to take on leadership roles in their communities and make a positive impact on the world.
Pre-ALT course
The Pre-ALT course (Pre-Advanced Leader Training) serves as a stepping stone for Scout Masters and Guide Captains seeking to become trainers for Unit Leaders. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively train and guide others within the organization. Our guide captain, Ms. Pavala Selvi, and scoutmaster, Ms. Anandavalli, have added sparkle to the crown by completing the Pre-ALT course in Stanley Park, Coonoor, with flying colours. They are now qualified to teach scout and guide unit leaders.
